Omni Property Begins Construction on Boston Mixed-Use Development

The Omni brand has broken ground on the Omni Boston Hotel at the Seaport, a major new property that will rank among Boston’s largest hotels and feature the city’s biggest ballroom. The hotel is scheduled to open in 2020 at the corner of Summer and D Streets and will rise 21 floors with more than 1,000 guestrooms, including 52 suites. Several suites will offer views of Boston Harbor.

“This project’s hotel, retail, restaurant and outdoor space is a welcome addition to Boston’s Seaport District and will lead to expanded economic opportunities for many businesses within the Commonwealth,” said Governor Charlie Baker of Massachusetts. “Our administration looks forward to continuing to work together with partners at the local level and in the private sector to support economic development in communities across Massachusetts.”

“Today marks more than just a groundbreaking; it’s a celebration of the diversity and inclusion this project represents from its design, to its contracting, to its nonprofit partners,” added Mayor Walsh of Boston. “The Omni Boston Hotel at the Seaport is a welcome addition to our city, providing better public access to the waterfront, improving walkability to the area and investing in our workforce. I look forward to seeing the vision for this hotel come to life, for the benefit of Boston’s residents and visitors alike.”

The property will include a range of public spaces and amenities designed for both guests and the local community. Dining options will feature an all-day restaurant, a French brasserie, a boulangerie and an elevated pool bar and grill. Indoor and outdoor social spaces will include a lobby lounge, an entertainment lounge and collaborative workspace. The hotel’s rooftop-style pool deck on the fourth floor will be available for events and will provide skyline views of Boston. Meeting and event facilities will offer approximately 100,000 square feet of flexible space, including a large ballroom, multiple breakout rooms and pre-function areas. Guests will also find a Mokara Spa with a fitness center and a blow-dry hair bar, along with a retail shop showcasing locally sourced products.

A portion of the hotel’s proceeds will support six local nonprofit organizations: The Edgerley Family South Boston Clubhouse of the Boys and Girls Clubs of Boston; The South Boston Community Health Center; Julie’s Family Learning Center; Ladies Involved in Putting a Stop To Inner-City Killing (LIPS); The Daniel Marr Boys and Girls Club of Dorchester; and the Building Pathways Program. This commitment aims to channel hotel revenues into programs that benefit youth, families and workforce development in Boston neighborhoods.

“Boston is a premier destination and we are incredibly excited to be a part of the city’s continued evolution – especially in the Seaport District,” said Peter Strebel, president of Omni Hotels & Resorts. “We look forward to working together with Massport, New Boston Hospitality, Governor Baker and Mayor Walsh to establish the Omni Boston Hotel at the Seaport as an unforgettable destination for years to come.”
