Renowned chef Robert Wiedmaier of Marcel’s in Washington, D.C., is heading to London to participate in a gala celebration honoring Matthew Barzun, the new U.S. Ambassador to the U.K. From now through April 4, Wiedmaier will collaborate with Simon Hulstone of The Elephant in Devon to present a series of pop-up lunches and dinners for London food enthusiasts.
The culinary events will be hosted in the Chef’s Penthouse at Grosvenor House Apartments by Jumeirah Living on Park Lane. Guests can enjoy a carefully curated menu that showcases refined techniques and seasonal ingredients, with both chefs contributing signature dishes throughout the week.
Highlights from the menu—also featured together at lunch and dinner on April 4—include an amuse-bouche of egg shell with cauliflower mousse, lemon essence and Osetra caviar; Belon oyster velouté en croûte; roasted pigeon served with potato risotto and black truffles; lamb tenderloin accompanied by baby spinach and a cumin Madeira sauce; and a roulade of crispy sweetbreads with petit gris, chanterelle mushrooms and a red wine essence. The menu balances delicate seafood preparations, rich game and classic French-inspired techniques to deliver an elegant tasting experience.
Lunch service opens at noon, with seating available until 12:30 pm. Dinner service begins at 7 p.m., with seating until 7:30 p.m. The price is £250 per person (approximately $416), which includes all drinks, service and VAT, plus a glass of Champagne before lunch or canapés before dinner.
This collaboration offers a rare chance to taste the distinct styles of two acclaimed chefs—Wiedmaier’s polished, ingredient-driven approach and Hulstone’s countryside-influenced, ingredient-forward cooking—within the refined setting of the Chef’s Penthouse. Reservations are recommended due to limited seating and the exclusive nature of the events.
