St. Regis Debuts Luxury Hotel in Kazakhstan: What to Expect

Starwood Hotels & Resorts will introduce its prestigious St. Regis brand to Kazakhstan’s capital, Astana, with the opening of The St. Regis Astana. Slated to open in 2017 to coincide with Expo 2017, the hotel will offer 120 guestrooms, including 18 suites and a presidential suite. The property is planned to include extensive event and meeting facilities: a ballroom, five meeting rooms and a business center to serve both local and international guests.

Dining options at The St. Regis Astana are designed to cater to varied tastes. The hotel will feature an all-day dining restaurant, a specialty restaurant, the St. Regis Bar & Wine Vault, a cognac bar and a library for relaxed, intimate gatherings. Guests will also have access to a full range of recreational amenities, including a spa, a swimming pool, a fitness center and a children’s club, alongside the signature St. Regis Butler Service for a refined, personalized stay.

Bart Carnahan, senior vice president of acquisitions and development for Europe, Africa and the Middle East at Starwood Hotels & Resorts, highlighted the strategic timing of the opening. He noted that the transfer of businesses and institutions to Astana has prompted upgrades to the city’s international airport and the construction of a new railway station. Those developments, coupled with growing regional and international visitation across the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), make Astana an attractive market for luxury hospitality.

Starwood already manages five hotels in the CIS across three of its lifestyle brands—The Luxury Collection, W and Sheraton—and has plans to expand further in the region. The company intends to open 11 additional properties across the CIS by the end of 2017, reflecting continued confidence in the area’s growth and demand for high-end accommodations.

As Astana continues to develop as a political and economic center, the addition of The St. Regis Astana aims to elevate the city’s luxury hospitality offerings and provide a distinguished option for travelers attending major events, business meetings and international exhibitions.
