Qatar Airways Curates Premium In-Flight Beverage Program for Discerning Travelers

Qatar Airways places a strong emphasis on quality and attention to detail in its beverage program, aiming to deliver an exceptional experience for passengers. Xia Cai, Senior Vice President of Product Design and Development, explains that careful attention to global trends and the distinct preferences of travelers ensures the complimentary beverage selection remains outstanding.

That commitment to beverage quality reflects the airline’s broader standard of excellence. In 2024, AirlineRatings.com recognized Qatar Airways as Airline of the Year, citing among other strengths the consistently excellent onboard experience. The airline regularly updates its wine list to complement seasonal menus, rotating selections every two weeks so frequent flyers can enjoy new options on repeated journeys.

Cai notes the airline’s wine choices are intended to showcase the character of each vintage and deliver a memorable sensory experience. Qatar Airways curates wines from prominent regions worldwide and features two Champagnes in premium cabins. Champagne Armand de Brignac Brut Gold, often called Ace of Spades, blends Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier with aromas of orange blossom, peach and honey. Bollinger La Grande Année Brut Rosé 2007, vinified in oak, offers floral and red-fruit notes such as rose petals, strawberries and raspberries.

Onboard still wines may come from esteemed producers such as Corton Vergennes in Burgundy, Château d’Esclans in Provence, Penfolds from Australia and Vega Sicilia in Rioja. For those who prefer fortified wines, options include Vin de Constance from South Africa and aged Tawny Port from Portugal’s Douro Valley. According to Cai, flying with Qatar Airways becomes “a cultural immersion, a celebration of the senses…a harmonious blend of the familiar and the extraordinary.”

Signature pairings highlight how beverages enhance the meal experience: chilled Grey Goose vodka served with delicate, salty caviar; bold blue cheese paired with the rich butterscotch and nutty notes of Graham’s 20-Year-Old Port; and Angus beef matched with a structured Pauillac red Bordeaux. These combinations reflect careful thought and culinary expertise aimed at creating memorable dining moments in the air.

Spirits lovers can choose premium options such as Glenmorangie 19-Year-Old Single Malt Scotch, Woodford Reserve Kentucky Straight Bourbon, Tanqueray No. TEN gin and Bacardi Carta Blanca white rum. These are available neat, on the rocks, or mixed into classic cocktails like the Cuba Libre, Old Fashioned or a dry martini.

Excellent drinks are not limited to the cabin. Qatar Airways’ global lounges also showcase carefully selected beverages. At Al Mourjan Business Lounge in Doha, for example, guests can find Champagne Lanson Le Black Label Brut, Markus Molitor Haus Klosterberg Riesling from Germany and Casa Silva Shiraz Gran Terroir de la Costa Lolol from Chile, alongside a range of beers, spirits and cocktails.

Through consistent attention to detail and a focus on quality, Qatar Airways aims to satisfy sophisticated palates both on the ground and in the air. Cai sums up the philosophy: “Embarking on a journey with us means indulging in a symphony of flavors that elevate your travel experience. Our lounges become gateways to a world where tradition meets innovation, and every sip tells a story.”
