Southwest Airlines Launches New Routes and Expanded Service Plans

Southwest Airlines has added new nonstop service between Houston (HOU) and Cozumel (CZM), operating twice daily beginning March 7, 2020.

“Scuba divers and beach lovers have long wanted an easy way to reach this underwater paradise,” said Bill Tierney, vice president of marketing at Southwest. “We’re bringing Southwest’s signature hospitality and value to Cozumel, and opening another attractive beach destination to our customers, continuing the expansion we’ve made to Cancun, Puerto Vallarta, Cabo San Lucas, Los Cabos, the Caribbean, and our growing service to the Hawaiian Islands.”

On the same date, Southwest will introduce several additional routes to Hawaii and inter-island connections: Sacramento (SMF) to Kahului (OGG) on Maui; Oakland (OAK) to Lihue (LIH) on Kauai and Kona (KOA) on the Big Island; and San Jose (SJC) to both Lihue and Kona.

Southwest also advanced the start of other Hawaii routes to November 10, rather than the following year as originally planned. These newly scheduled services include nonstop flights between Sacramento and Honolulu (HNL), as well as inter-island service linking Honolulu and Lihue.

“Demand for our Hawaii service is strong,” said Adam Decaire, vice president of network planning at Southwest.
