Accomplished winemaker Jacques de Klerk has joined the team at South Africa’s La Residence, part of The Royal Portfolio. Set on a private 30-acre estate in the Cape Winelands’ Franschhoek Valley, La Residence provides a luxurious base for exploring the region’s vineyards and wine culture. De Klerk’s appointment strengthens the property’s ability to offer guests an immersive, educational wine experience.

“As the Director of Viticulture and Winemaking for the independent Radford Dale Winery, Jacques is very familiar with the challenges and rewards of winemaking in the Western Cape,” said Liz Biden, founder of The Royal Portfolio. “Jacques knows the terroir and unique climate and understands how to bring out the best in the soil, vines and grapes.”
Guests can enjoy a thoughtfully curated wine journey paired with seasonal dishes from Executive Chef Lennard Marais, who uses produce and ingredients from the estate’s working farm. The vineyards focus primarily on Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon. Beginning with this year’s harvest, estate-labelled wines will be produced at Radford Dale’s Stellenbosch cellar.

“When we decided to revitalize our wine offering, we prioritized sustainability and reducing the environmental impact of our operations,” said Wayve Kolevsohn, group beverage manager for The Royal Portfolio. “In Jacques, we found a winemaker who understands that vision and can help bring it to life.”
The estate also offers a serene spa where guests can indulge in extended treatments such as a 120-minute Kalahari Cocoon African body experience featuring massage, a mud clay application and a full-body wrap.
