Six Senses Hotels Resorts and Spas has announced the brand’s first property in the United States with the upcoming opening of Six Senses New York. Scheduled to open in 2019, the luxury hotel is being developed in Manhattan between the High Line and the Hudson River.
The site occupies 10th Avenue and the full block between 17th and 18th Streets in Chelsea, a lively neighborhood known for its art scene and contemporary architecture. Named The Eleventh, the development features two striking towers designed by the Bjarke Ingels Group. Drawing inspiration from classic Modernist buildings, cultural institutions and traditional skyscraper forms, the towers present a rotating silhouette. Stone and metal façades will add a dynamic contrast to the surrounding streetscape.
Rising to roughly 300 and 400 feet, the towers will stand taller than many nearby structures and offer sweeping views of the High Line and Manhattan’s skyline. Six Senses is introducing its first five-star urban hotel here, alongside about 240 condominium residences and premium retail space. Guest accommodations start at approximately 400 square feet, designed to support a high level of personalized service and an elevated lifestyle experience.
“This project is a fascinating and exciting contrast to the typical Six Senses locations where we operate resorts in settings with azure waters, UNESCO heritage listings and lush rainforests,” said Neil Jacobs, chief executive officer of Six Senses Hotels Resorts Spas. “Six Senses New York will have the same touch-points and DNA, with some creative adaption of course, but with no compromises on our commitment to community, wellness, sustainability and design. We are delighted to be in partnership with HFZ on this fabulous urban development.”
The development is being carefully planned to pursue Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification. Guest rooms and public areas will be designed and fitted to reflect the brand’s commitment to environmental responsibility and sustainable operations.
Wellness will be a central pillar of the hotel experience, reflecting Six Senses’ integrated approach to health. Spa services will combine scientific methods with personalized care, tailored to each guest. Dining will emphasize fresh, seasonal and locally sourced ingredients across two on-site restaurants, reinforcing the brand’s food and wellness philosophy. Additionally, plans include a private members’ club and a flexible, innovative meeting space that complement the hotel’s urban setting and community focus.
With its Chelsea location, distinctive architecture and emphasis on sustainability and wellness, Six Senses New York aims to bring the brand’s signature hospitality to an urban context while maintaining core values of design, community engagement and environmental stewardship.
