Arrival/Check-in: I chose to stay at the Radisson SAS Airport Hotel the night before an early morning flight from Oslo. It meant a short transfer to Gardermoen Airport and eliminated the risk of any last-minute travel delays. The hotel maintains the dependable standard found across Radisson properties in Scandinavia. Check-in was efficient via individual reception kiosks rather than a central front desk, and soon after I had my room key and rolled my suitcase upstairs. (18/20)
Guest Quarters: The hotel’s seven guestroom floors are each themed—examples include “Maritime” and “Scandinavian.” My room was on the “Urban” floor and featured bold accents in warm tones. The accommodations provided all essentials: a comfortable bed, a clean bathroom, a functioning television, soundproof windows with an airport view, and complimentary high-speed internet. The room was practical and well-maintained, ideal for an overnight stay before a flight. (12/15)
Services/Amenities: Radisson SAS Airport Hotel offers extensive facilities, many aimed at business and leisure travelers. There are 60 meeting rooms that can be combined to host up to 1,000 guests, a roomy fitness center with massage showers, a solarium and a sauna, and a golf simulator available for an hourly fee. Although I didn’t use the fitness areas on this visit, they add useful options for longer stays or guests with time to spare. Dining options are largely concentrated in the hotel—typical for airport hotels—and the lobby-level bar and restaurant provided a satisfying meal. The bacon cheeseburger filled the need for a hearty dinner, even if it wasn’t gourmet. Breakfast is included with the room and consists of a substantial buffet featuring Scandinavian staples such as smoked salmon, herring and fresh vegetables. For business needs, a business center behind reception provides internet and email access for guests without laptops. (42/45)
The Experience: The hotel delivers reliably on what matters: helpful staff, comfortable rooms and convenience for air travelers. It’s not a luxury destination, but it performs its role exceptionally well. I was able to rest easily and reach the airport with plenty of time for my early flight. (18/20)
