Queen Mary II Renovation Reveals Stunning New Look

Undoubtedly one of the most famous and beloved ocean liners sailing the seven seas, the Queen Mary 2 is set for an extensive and elegant refit. London-based maritime design firm SMC, known for work with luxury yachts and major cruise lines, will lead the multi-million dollar project scheduled to take place over a 25-day period from May 27 to June 21, 2016.

The refurbishment will introduce refreshed signature color schemes, new carpets and furniture, and updated Art Deco-inspired details that preserve the ship’s classic lines while enhancing its contemporary appeal. Additional decorative fixtures and fittings will be added to reinforce the liner’s graceful style, sophisticated glamour, and renowned White Star Service. Passenger feedback has informed many of the design choices, ensuring the improvements respond to traveler preferences.

Beyond cosmetic upgrades, the refit includes practical additions to expand guest accommodation and services. The Queen Mary 2 will gain 15 new single cabins and 30 additional Britannia Club cabins to provide more varied stateroom options. Pet owners will also benefit from an enlarged kennel area, improving comfort and capacity for four-legged travelers.

Overall, the planned updates aim to refresh public spaces and staterooms while maintaining the ship’s historic character and high standards of service. The combination of refined interior enhancements and thoughtful additions to cabin inventory and amenities is designed to keep the liner competitive and welcoming for years to come.
