Sheraton Raises Flag: New Hotel Opens in the Dominican Republic

Starwood Hotels & Resorts has strengthened its presence in the Dominican Republic with the recent opening of the Sheraton Santo Domingo Hotel. Situated on Avenida George Washington along the city’s upscale waterfront, the hotel offers convenient access to the downtown core and the business district, and lies roughly 30 minutes from Las Américas International Airport.

Previously operating as the Meliá Santo Domingo, the 255-room property underwent a comprehensive $12 million renovation prior to reopening under the Sheraton brand. The refurbishment modernized guest rooms and public spaces while preserving the hotel’s prime waterfront location and its appeal for business and leisure travelers alike.

Guest facilities at Sheraton Santo Domingo include a fully equipped fitness center, steam rooms, a massage facility and a sauna, providing a range of wellness options. Dining choices span several on-site restaurants and bars, designed to meet diverse tastes. For meetings and events, the hotel offers approximately 22,500 square feet of flexible function space, featuring 11 conference rooms suitable for everything from small board meetings to larger conferences and social events.

Sheraton Santo Domingo marks Starwood’s third property in the Dominican Republic, joining the recently opened Four Points by Sheraton Punta Cana Village and The Westin Punta Cana Resort & Club. This expansion reflects the company’s strategy to grow its footprint across key Caribbean destinations and to serve both business travelers and vacationers with brand-standard amenities and services.

With its waterfront location, upgraded facilities and significant meeting capacity, Sheraton Santo Domingo aims to attract corporate groups, local events and international visitors seeking modern comfort near Santo Domingo’s cultural and commercial centers.
