Windstar Cruises has partnered with the James Beard Foundation to offer food-focused cruise itineraries for this year. These small luxury sailings are designed for travelers who want to explore regional cuisine through immersive experiences: cooking demonstrations, hands-on sessions, market visits and multi-course meals prepared by James Beard–recognized chefs.
The first itinerary departs April 24, sailing from Lisbon to Barcelona with stops in Morocco, Málaga, Almería, Cartagena, Ibiza and Tarragona. Chef Michael Nischan, a three-time James Beard award winner, will join the voyage to lead an onshore culinary experience and to present two cooking demonstrations that showcase local ingredients and techniques.
A second 10-day culinary itinerary is slated for both June and August. The route includes Lisbon, St. Malo, La Rochelle, Bordeaux, Gijón, El Ferrol, Porto and Dublin. The June sailing will feature Chef Maria Hines, while Chefs Matt and Kate Jennings will lead the August sailing. Each chef will emphasize regional seafood and wine pairings, offer live cooking demonstrations aboard and arrange visits to local markets and producers to connect guests with authentic flavors and traditions.
These curated voyages blend leisurely small-ship cruising with a deep dive into local food culture, appealing to travelers who appreciate high-quality cuisine, intimate culinary instruction and opportunities to meet celebrated chefs. Passengers can expect menus inspired by port cities visited on the itinerary, classroom-style and hands-on cooking sessions, and expert guidance on sourcing and preparing regional specialties.
By focusing on seasonal ingredients and local producers, the programs aim to provide both a gastronomic and cultural understanding of each destination. Guests who enjoy seafood, wine and market-to-table dining experiences will find these sailings particularly rewarding, with experiences tailored to highlight the culinary identity of each port of call.
Windstar’s collaboration with the James Beard Foundation combines the cruise line’s small-ship hospitality with the foundation’s culinary expertise, creating opportunities for memorable meals, skill-building demonstrations and authentic local encounters. These itineraries are intended for food enthusiasts seeking enriching travel that balances exploration, instruction and relaxation at sea.
