ARRIVAL/CHECK-IN: After an overnight flight on Condor Airlines I continued to Tegernsee, a charming resort town in Bavaria. I arrived mid-afternoon at Althoff Seehotel and was greeted by friendly staff. My luggage had already been taken from the car and was being brought up to my room. Despite a large conference taking place in the lobby and entrance area, check-in was efficient and smooth, and I was promptly escorted to my suite.

GUEST QUARTERS: Entering the suite, I was immediately impressed by the attention to detail. Near the entrance there was a guest bathroom finished in marble tile. A hallway led into the main living area and was lined with closets that provided ample storage, a concealed safe, umbrellas, hangers, cushions for the balcony furniture, laundry bags and other practical items. The living space included a comfortable sofa, two chairs, a coffee table, a TV, tasteful floral arrangements and décor. A small welcome selection of popular German snacks and beer was thoughtfully presented. A full-length mirror and access to a generous balcony completed the living area.
The sleeping area featured a king-sized bed, a work desk, additional closet space and a lounge chair, plus a second access point to the balcony. The en suite bathroom offered a double vanity, a bathtub beneath a decorative Swarovski-style star feature, a separate rain shower and a private toilet area. The balcony quickly became my favorite spot; whenever time allowed I sat outside to enjoy warm weather and the panoramic views. Perched on the shore of Lake Tegernsee with the Alps rising nearby, the hotel provides expansive, scenic vistas that change with the light and weather.

SERVICES/AMENITIES: Each morning I enjoyed the included breakfast, which featured freshly prepared eggs, bacon and a selection of seasonal fruit. The hotel has five distinct dining venues, each with its own character, plus a lobby bar that serves cocktails and light bites. During my stay I made time for a facial at the 4 Elements Spa, a calm and professional space for treatments and relaxation. Additional amenities include indoor and outdoor pools, two whirlpools, a wellness bar offering healthy snacks and fresh juices, and a private beach on Lake Tegernsee. On-site shopping and easy access to the lakeside town make it simple to combine relaxation with local exploration.
ACTIVITIES AND LOCATION: Althoff Seehotel’s lakeside position makes it an excellent base for discovering Tegernsee. The hotel is roughly a five-minute walk from local shops and restaurants, so guests can easily stroll into town. Depending on the season, visitors will find outdoor activities such as hiking in the surrounding hills, boating and water sports on the lake, winter sports in nearby alpine areas, and a calendar of local festivals and cultural events. The hotel’s concierge is helpful in suggesting tailored itineraries and arranging excursions.
