OYO Expands Outside Asia: First Hotel Launch in India’s Global Push

India’s largest hospitality company, Oyo, has announced an expansion into the United Kingdom with plans to open properties across ten cities.

Over the next 18 months, Oyo will work with local franchising and marketing teams to partner with as many as 300 independent hotels across England and Scotland. This move represents the company’s first expansion of travel accommodations beyond Asia. With an investment of $53 million, Oyo’s target destinations include London, Birmingham, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Manchester.

The company aims to add more than 5,000 rooms by 2020 in a market that welcomed over 19 million international visitors in 2017. By growing its presence in the UK, Oyo expects to serve both leisure and business travelers seeking consistent, value-driven accommodation options backed by a recognizable brand and loyalty benefits.

Oyo operates as a hybrid model, combining elements of an online travel agency with a branded network of independent hotels. Through its platform, guests can search and book a wide range of properties while benefiting from standardized service expectations, digital booking tools and the company’s loyalty program.

These new UK partnerships will join Oyo’s existing footprint across India, China, Malaysia and Nepal, furthering the company’s global growth strategy. The expansion is positioned to leverage Oyo’s technology, brand standards and customer acquisition capabilities to help independent hoteliers increase occupancy and streamline operations while offering travelers a consistent, affordable option in key UK cities.

As Oyo scales into the UK market, the company will focus on adapting its service standards to local preferences and regulatory requirements, training partners on operational processes and integrating properties into its digital ecosystem. The planned rollout is expected to create new opportunities for hotel owners seeking brand affiliation and digital distribution, while providing travelers with more choices backed by a recognizable hospitality platform.

By targeting major urban centers and investing in a sizeable portfolio of partner hotels, Oyo aims to establish a foothold in the competitive UK lodging market and extend its hybrid agency-and-brand model beyond Asia for the first time.
