Terminal A at Newark Liberty International Airport has been awarded a 5-Star Airport Terminal Rating by SkyTrax, the global industry organization that evaluates airport customer experience. This designation represents the highest possible rating for terminal-level service and facilities, recognizing terminals that deliver outstanding amenities, clear customer service and exceptional frontline operations.

Opened in January 2023, Terminal A spans roughly one million square feet and serves about 15 million customers a year. The terminal’s design emphasizes natural light with floor-to-ceiling windows, integrates public art by local creators, and highlights restaurants and small businesses from the surrounding community to give travelers a sense of place.
“We are honored to be recognized as a 5-Star Airport Terminal. This 5-Star rating places Newark Terminal A in a very exclusive club – one of only three 5-Star Airport facilities in North America,” said Michael Kunz, CEO of Munich Airport NJ LLC, the terminal operator. SkyTrax conducted a three-day audit of Terminal A and highlighted several strengths: clear and intuitive wayfinding, dynamic TSA signage, high-quality facilities, comfortable seating, plentiful charging stations, advanced security screening processes, and a diverse mix of local food and retail options. Signature installations such as the Forest of Firsts—featuring eight towering LED pillars celebrating New Jersey’s innovation—and the Digital Journey of Surprises, which showcases the state’s people, landmarks and achievements, were noted as memorable elements that enhance the passenger experience.
The 5-Star rating underscores Terminal A’s commitment to combining efficient operations with thoughtful design and community-focused retail and dining, creating a modern travel environment that prioritizes passenger comfort and convenience.
