Six Senses Partners with IHG: What the New Hotel Alliance Means

InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) has completed the acquisition of the Six Senses Hotels Resorts Spas brand, adding an established leader in luxury, wellness and sustainability to its portfolio. The deal includes 16 operating hotels and resorts, 18 projects currently in the development pipeline, and more than 50 additional potential locations under discussion.

Six Senses is recognized for its distinctive properties in remote and sought-after destinations such as the Seychelles, the Maldives and Zighy Bay in Oman. The brand is widely respected for integrating high-end hospitality with a strong commitment to wellness programming and sustainable practices, a combination that has earned it top rankings among global hotel brands in recent years.

“Six Senses is an outstanding brand in the top tier of luxury and one we’ve admired for some time,” said Keith Barr, CEO of IHG. “You only have to look at its iconic hotels and resorts to see how this acquisition will further round out our luxury offering. With its focus on wellness and sustainability, Six Senses has been recognized as a leader in the sector, reflecting the strength of its management team and the operational expertise they bring to IHG.”

IHG highlighted that Six Senses’ development pipeline presents a clear platform for high-quality growth. Leveraging IHG’s global scale and distribution, the company plans to expand the Six Senses portfolio substantially over the coming decade, targeting more than 60 properties worldwide. This acquisition aligns with IHG’s strategic focus on growth in the fast-growing luxury market, reinforcing the company’s commitment to expanding its presence in that segment.

With the addition of Six Senses, IHG’s luxury portfolio approaches nearly 300 properties globally, and the company reports more than 100 new luxury openings planned in the coming years. Among the Six Senses projects in development are a hotel and resort within a restored 14th-century fort in Rajasthan and the brand’s first North American hotel, which is planned for two towers in Manhattan’s West Chelsea neighborhood.

The integration of Six Senses into IHG is intended to preserve the brand’s identity and its emphasis on guest wellbeing and environmental responsibility while benefiting from IHG’s operational infrastructure, loyalty program and global distribution channels. IHG expects this combination to accelerate Six Senses’ expansion into new markets and to enhance the group’s competitive position in the luxury hospitality sector.
