ARRIVAL/CHECK-IN: After flying into Newark and taking an Uber, I arrived at Thompson Central Park New York, by Hyatt for a two-night stay. The staff greeted me warmly and directed me to the check-in desk. The lobby has a sleek, modern design with thoughtful ambient lighting that creates a calm, polished atmosphere. Check-in was smooth, and soon I was riding up to the 31st floor.
GUEST QUARTERS: My room continued the hotel’s contemporary New York aesthetic. The décor was cohesive with the lobby, using muted tones and layered lighting to create a relaxing urban retreat. A plush blue L-shaped couch sat near the window, forming a comfortable seating area with a small table suitable for working and convenient outlets nearby for charging devices. The king-sized bed had generous bedside surfaces, with easy-to-reach outlets and switches for the room’s lighting.

A Victrola speaker by the bed made it easy to stream music via Bluetooth or listen to local radio, and the bedding was extremely comfortable with soft pillows that felt especially inviting after a long day of travel. Small thoughtful touches around the room enhanced the stay, such as a movable TV that can be swiveled to face either the couch or the bed.
SERVICES/AMENITIES: I didn’t have time to visit the spa or fitness center during this short stay, but I did enjoy breakfast at the Upper Stories Lounge before a morning of meetings. The staff prepared excellent coffee and provided attentive service. On arrival I was welcomed with Saratoga Water and a light snack tray—small gestures that made a positive impression. The bathroom included a Dyson hairdryer and a steamer, which were convenient and well-maintained.
