Top Eco-Friendly Hotels to Visit This Earth Day

With Earth Day on April 22 approaching, several eco-conscious hotels are inviting guests to mark the occasion by staying at properties that prioritize sustainability and thoughtful environmental practices.

Hôtel Barrière Le Carl Gustaf St. Barth

Located on the island of St. Barth, the 21-room Hôtel Barrière Le Carl Gustaf has implemented an innovative humidity-recovery system across the property that captures moisture from the air and converts it into clean drinking water. The process produces water free of chlorine, chemicals and common pollutants: after collection the water is purified with carbon filters and UV lamps, then bottled on-site in organic, fully recyclable glass containers.

The resort offers this on-site product as L’Eau du Carl—a branded water made at Le Carl—available throughout the property and in guest minibars as part of its broader effort to reduce single-use plastic and minimize environmental impact.

Hyatt Regency Maui Resort & Spa

Hyatt Regency Maui Resort & Spa has long been a leader in hospitality sustainability. It was the first property in Hawai’i and the first large-scale beachfront resort globally to receive the U.S. Green Building Council TRUE Waste Precertification, reflecting its strong waste-management practices.

During a multimillion-dollar renovation completed in 2014, the resort diverted more than five million pounds of material from the Maui landfill. It donated over 1,716 tons of furniture, mattresses, artwork, mirrors and other usable items to local businesses and charities, and recycled more than 750 tons of metal.

Continuing to raise the sustainability bar, Hyatt Regency Maui is expanding initiatives across several areas, including food and food-waste reduction, renewable energy adoption, green cleaning practices, improving indoor air quality, and enhanced sustainability training for staff. These efforts reflect the resort’s commitment to reducing its environmental footprint while maintaining high standards for guest experience.
