IN AN AGE WHEN more than 80 percent of people ages 18–34 spend a significant portion of their disposable income on health products and services, the global fitness and wellness movement is reshaping the festival landscape. Rather than waking up bleary from a hangover, many festival-goers now rise for sunrise yoga set to live music, savor kombucha on tap, and choose organic meals.
Though formats vary, wellness festivals worldwide share a common goal: building community through well-being. Some events span a week of meditation and yoga, while others combine DJs and dance parties with mindfulness lectures and classes. These gatherings blend movement, music, education, and connection to help attendees feel healthier and more centered.
“Wellness festivals have grown in popularity, particularly over the last five years,” said Steve Schmader, president and CEO of the International Festivals & Events Association in Boise. “As people cope with increasing stress, they seek outlets and ways to regain control over their lives.”
Below are several prominent wellness festivals from around the world, each offering its own mix of activities and ethos.

AMANDA SENIOR
WANDERLUST began in Squaw Valley, Lake Tahoe, in 2009 and has expanded into an international series across the United States, Canada, Chile, Australia, and New Zealand. “It’s a celebration of balance and community,” said CEO Sean Hoess. Starting as a music festival centered on yoga, Wanderlust now features roughly 300 activities per event, including yoga classes, meditation, lectures, nightly concerts, and location-based offerings like guided hikes or paddle-board lessons.
Speakers have included Deepak Chopra, and performances range from acoustic mountaintop meditations to high-energy main-stage shows, silent discos, Kirtan, and sound-healing sessions. Wanderlust’s mission is to help people “find their true north” and their best selves. The brand also runs urban events called Wanderlust 108, a “mindful triathlon” that combines a 5K run, a 90-minute yoga class, and guided meditation.
BHakti-Focused Festivals: Bhakti Fest was launched at California’s Joshua Tree Retreat Center and centers on devotional practice, Kirtan music, Ayurveda, workshops, and vegetarian and vegan cuisine. Co-founder Sridhar Steven Silberfein emphasizes a family-oriented atmosphere: no alcohol, no drugs, and a focus on inner exploration and soul connection. Mornings often begin with meditation and a fire ceremony (homa), opening the inner spirit for the day.

Shakti Fest, founded two years after Bhakti, focuses more on celebrating the divine feminine. It features many female teachers and workshops led by senior women in spiritual traditions. While Bhakti Fest draws larger crowds—about 5,000 attendees with notable speakers—Shakti, held over Mother’s Day weekend, offers a more intimate experience and smaller gatherings. Proceeds from these festivals often support charitable causes, including schools in India.
The Sun Valley Wellness Festival in Idaho, now in its 21st year, began as a community initiative and is now run by the nonprofit Sun Valley Wellness Institute. With an emphasis on mind, body, spirit, and environment, the festival draws roughly 3,500 attendees and offers classes such as yoga, hula hooping, and sound meditation, alongside presentations and hands-on practices like Reiki. Evenings include keynote speakers and music-led activities that encourage movement and connection.
Telluride WOW (Weekend of Wellness) keeps things intentionally smaller and straightforward, typically starting each day with a group hike and offering a mix of music-focused fitness classes, Pilates or indoor cycling, and choices between massage, meditation, and movement sessions. The festival also provides behavioral health resources in one-on-one formats.
The International Yoga Festival in Rishikesh, India, is held at Parmarth Niketan Ashram, one of the country’s largest interfaith yoga centers. Regarded as the birthplace of yoga, the week-long festival delivers more than 60 hours of classes led by world-renowned masters, plus lectures from India’s spiritual and thought leaders. Daily schedules begin in the early morning with kundalini sadhana and conclude after evening cultural performances on the banks of the Ganges.
Wonderfruit, held at the Fields at Siam Country Club in Pattaya, Thailand, combines music, arts, family programming, workshops, talks, and immersive installations over four days. The festival highlights sustainability—using eco-friendly materials and featuring stages built from bamboo—while offering talks on environmental awareness and conservation alongside musical performances and interactive experiences.
BaliSpirit, hosted in Ubud, brings together more than 7,000 participants for a six-day festival of yoga, healing arts, workshops, and live music spanning many genres. The program covers diverse practices such as shamanism, African drumming meditation, kundalini tantra, and Javanese mysticism. A dedicated healing center offers treatments like chakra balancing and Balinese massage.
Envision Festival in Costa Rica blends music and wellness in a rainforest setting. Since 2011, Envision has featured acclaimed performers, performance artists, and practical workshops on permaculture, herbal medicine, and sustainable living. Attendees can camp or stay nearby, and the program often includes talks from environmental and cultural influencers.

MARC O’SULLIVAN
WellFest, launched in Dublin in 2015, has become Ireland’s largest wellness festival. Set at the Royal Hospital Kilmainham, it promotes physical, spiritual, and nutritional wellness through yoga and Pilates classes, mental-health talks, cooking demonstrations, and expert panels.

The Edinburgh Wellbeing Festival, held at the Assembly Rooms, offers a wide array of speakers and workshops focused on fitness, nutrition, herbal remedies, physiotherapy, and business development within the wellness sector. Classes range from power yoga to Zumba, while seminars cover topics from building a wellbeing business to choosing the right yoga style.
SpiritFest in South Africa, hosted on a green farm and nature reserve outside Swellendam, blends chanting, meditation, DJ-led dance parties, and varied yoga styles—from Kundalini to Ashtanga. The five-day gathering includes eco-conscious vendors and international presenters, from anatomy experts to shamans, fostering community, learning, and conscious celebration.
Across continents and cultures, these festivals reveal a shared trend: people increasingly seek experiences that nourish body, mind, and spirit while connecting with like-minded communities. Whether large or intimate, urban or remote, wellness festivals are evolving into meaningful spaces for rest, learning, movement, and transformation.
