Best idea ever? Imagine a miniature castle or château tucked into the treetops—a grown-up hideaway that feels straight out of a fairy tale. It’s not fantasy: U.K.-based Sawday’s Canopy & Stars has curated a collection of luxury treehouse accommodations inspired by fairy-tale castles and French châteaux. Founder Alastair Sawday searched globally for unique, romantic escapes; he and his son Toby personally inspect every property before it joins the Canopy & Stars portfolio.
Most of these treehouses are designed for two guests and emphasize intimate, romantic details. In Dordogne, the Monbazillac Treehouse recreates a miniature château experience and features a treetop hot tub plus breakfast delivered in a basket and hoisted to your door by pulley. Also in Dordogne, the Milandes Treehouse channels the charm of a traditional French country house: it offers two bedrooms, a hot tub and a terrace set among the branches, so you can spend much of your stay suspended above the ground.
Both of these treehouse villas also provide access to a ground-level swimming pool for guests who want to come down from the canopy. They are equipped with modern comforts—refrigerated minibars, Dolce Gusto coffeemakers, walk-in showers and electric heating—so the experience blends rustic romance with contemporary convenience. Breakfast is included, and a chef, Vincent Lucas of Etincelles, can be booked to prepare evening meals, leaving you free to relax, savor the surroundings and enjoy the views. Rates vary by season and number of guests.
