ARRIVAL/CHECK-IN: Philadelphia was busy, so I chose the Kimpton Hotel Palomar for its prime Center City location. Nestled just off Samson Street, the hotel sits amid excellent restaurants and is only a few blocks from The Union League and City Hall, making it ideal for both business and leisure travelers. Parking options are plentiful nearby, and the property has easy access to public transportation. The recently refreshed lobby gives the hotel a welcoming, authentic Philadelphia character. The doorman greeted me on arrival, held my bags when I came in for morning meetings prior to official check-in, and when I returned later the front desk handled my check-in quickly and courteously, offering water and helpful local tips.

GUEST QUARTERS: I stayed in a King Bedroom Studio Suite that felt both comfortable and functional. The suite included a separate bedroom and a distinct sitting area with a work station, a sofa, and a comfortable chair—perfect for working between meetings. A large flat-screen TV provided news and entertainment while I sorted through emails and prepared for the day.
The bedroom featured a king-sized bed with bedside tables and an additional seating nook. There were several spots that could serve as a workspace, but the sitting area near the TV proved the most practical. The mattress and linens were comfortable, which helped ensure a restful night before early morning commitments.
The bathroom was roomy and well-appointed, with a marble-topped vanity and a generous walk-in tiled shower with a glass door. The large footprint and clean design made it feel luxurious and functional at the same time.
SERVICES & AMENITIES: The hotel’s restaurant, Square 1682, is worth a visit. Named in honor of William Penn and Philadelphia’s historic public squares, Square 1682 offers approachable cuisine in an upbeat atmosphere and serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Signature dishes include the Square 1682 Burger, highlighted by Cooper Sharp cheese, and the 1682 Steak, a modern take on steak frites. The restaurant is a convenient spot for business meals or casual dining.
Happy hour at the bar is popular with locals; it runs Tuesday through Saturday from 5–7 p.m. and features specialty cocktails and a selection of appetizers—an excellent option for winding down after a day of exploring or meetings.
The hotel also supports an active, on-the-go guest experience: bikes are available for use, yoga mats are provided in every room, and the property runs a “Forgot It, We Got It” program stocked with commonly misplaced items such as phone chargers, lip balm, coffee makers, curling irons, and toiletries. This thoughtful program helps guests avoid last-minute runs to stores and adds to the convenience of staying here.
