While there are always plenty of reasons to visit the Land of Fire and Ice, Iceland specialist Discover the World highlights three new reasons to plan a trip this summer.

New Highland Base Hotel
Opening this July, Highland Base is set deep in the Kerlingarfjöll mountains in Iceland’s central highlands. The site sits among glacial rivers, steaming geothermal valleys, snowfields and sweeping panoramic views. The complex will include a main hotel, several lodges, a hostel and camping areas, along with an on-site restaurant. New geothermal baths are scheduled to open in October. From the property, guests will have direct access to hiking and mountain biking routes as well as off-road excursions. Travelers who book the Highlands and Lowlands itinerary with Discover the World can combine a Ring Road tour with a stay at this new midlands retreat.

New Electric Tours
For this summer Discover the World has added an electric option to its self-drive itineraries. These zero-emission rentals rely on Iceland’s growing fast-charging network, making long-distance drives around the island increasingly practical. Since most of Iceland’s electricity already comes from renewable sources, choosing an electric vehicle is a low-impact way to explore. The electric self-drive option is available on seven-night tours that follow popular routes and natural highlights.

New Icelandic Geothermal Trail
In recent years a variety of new bathing venues have opened across Iceland, expanding options for geothermal bathing. Discover the World’s Icelandic Geothermal Trail maps a road trip that links 12 geothermal highlights from Reykjavik to Egilsstaðir in the east. The suggested stops include the Canyon Baths at Húsafell, the Bjorbodin Beer Spa in Siglufjörður, Geosea in Húsavík and the Nature Baths at Lake Mývatn, alongside other hot springs and pools. The trail is designed so travelers can build a bespoke itinerary focused on soaking, wellness and scenic drives through diverse landscapes.
