Celebrate all things Spam at the 12th annual Waikiki Spam Jam. From 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. on May 3, Oahu will close down Kalakaua Avenue, the main thoroughfare through Waikiki, so pedestrians can easily access food booths offering a wide selection of Spam-centered dishes. The evening also features some of Hawaii’s best island performers and musicians.
“Waikiki Spam Jam is one of the most popular and fun-filled festivals in Hawaii because of its great food and entertainment in a family-friendly atmosphere,” said Barbara Campbell, vice president of Outrigger Enterprises Group, one of the event’s founding sponsors. “Each year, more than 24,000 people turn out for the festival.”
The annual event supports the Hawaii Foodbank, a key organization that connects food donors with member agencies by collecting, sorting, salvaging, and distributing food. The Hawaii Foodbank also helps its member agencies with financial and educational assistance.
“While the Waikiki Spam Jam Festival provides a fun, family-friendly activity for our entire community, more importantly it benefits those most in need in our community — the elderly, families with children, and others who, without the support of the Hawaii Foodbank, might go to bed hungry,” Campbell said.
As part of the festival, Outrigger and OHANA Hotels in Waikiki are offering guests who check in for the weekend a complimentary one-category room upgrade, subject to availability, when they donate a Spam product. Donated items will go directly to the Hawaii Foodbank.
