Visit Halifax: Top Things to See and Do in Nova Scotia

There’s a lot happening this year in Halifax, Nova Scotia. The Savour Food & Wine Festival runs through March 15 and features Dine Around, a showcase of the region’s best food and beverages at local favourites such as Little Fish Oyster Bar, Kiju’s, GahanHouse, Five Fisherman Restaurant and many other eateries across the city.

From May 2–6, the East Coast Music Awards celebrates the vibrant music scene of Atlantic Canada, highlighting regional artists and performances. For ocean racing fans, the Route Halifax–Saint‑Pierre is a 350‑mile race from Canada to France. The fleet departs from the Halifax Waterfront in front of the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic on June 26, an energetic launch accompanied by crowds and festivities. The surrounding festival, Saint‑Pierre et Miquelon Des Iles d’Exception, begins June 22 and offers music, food and cultural events leading up to the race.

June also brings the Royal Nova Scotia International Tattoo, which marks its 40th anniversary from June 26 to July 2 with a variety of military and cultural performances. On July 1, vintage cars complete the final leg of The Great Race as they arrive in town. Mid‑July sees another milestone: July 15 marks the 90th anniversary of the opening of Pier 21, the historic Port of Immigration. The Canadian Museum of Immigration at Pier 21 presents exhibitions that explore the personal stories and broader history of immigration to Canada from 1928 to 1971, offering visitors insight into the journeys and legacies that shaped the country.
