Vancouver Summer Events: Shakespeare on the Beach & International Jazz Festival

British Columbia’s arts scene heats up in June as festivals and cultural events return across the region. The 25th season of Bard on the Beach opens June 12, running through Sept. 14. Set beneath performance tents in Kitsilano’s Vanier Park, the festival offers Shakespeare productions alongside talks, wine tastings and curated ticket packages that include special experiences such as the Bard-B-Q and fireworks evenings.

From June 21 to Sept. 2, Klahowya Village in Stanley Park presents a summer program celebrating First Nations culture. Visitors can experience traditional music, visual art, dance and cuisine, watch craft demonstrations, and take part in a Storytelling Circle led by elders who share legends and community tales.

The TD Vancouver International Jazz Festival runs from June 21 to July 1 and fills stages across the city with a range of jazz performances. The program has featured acclaimed artists in past seasons and showcases local, national and international talent in clubs, concert halls and outdoor venues.

Later in the season, on Aug. 4, Vancouver Pride Parade and Festival transforms the city streets into a lively celebration of LGBTQ2S+ culture. The parade and adjacent festival bring together performers, community groups and visitors to celebrate diversity through music, dance and public programming that attracts hundreds of thousands of attendees.

Together, these events reflect a vibrant summer cultural calendar that highlights theatre, Indigenous traditions, contemporary music and community celebrations. Whether you’re interested in live theatre under the tents at Vanier Park, Indigenous storytelling and craft in Stanley Park, cutting-edge jazz across downtown venues, or the inclusive spirit of the Pride Parade, summer in British Columbia offers a wide variety of arts experiences for residents and visitors alike.
