There’s something different in the air. United Airlines unveiled a company-wide uniform update this week as employees stepped out in a refreshed, cohesive look.
“The new uniforms project a contemporary, sophisticated look that reflects the modern airline we’re building,” said Jeff Foland, executive vice president—marketing, technology and strategy, United. “With significant feedback from our uniformed co-workers, we’ve designed pieces that are professional, stylish and functional.”
The new palette centers on accents of blue, gold, silver and gray and represents the first time multiple work groups—including flight attendants, customer service agents, technical operations and ramp personnel—will wear similarly styled uniforms. United pilots are scheduled to introduce their redesigned uniforms later this year.
Flight attendants now have a coordinated, professional wardrobe built around black trousers, skirts, sweaters, vests and blazers. Blazers feature two rows of silver braid on the sleeves for a polished, consistent detail. Female flight attendants can also opt for sweaters, vests, short-sleeve jackets and two dress styles, one of which is a signature blue dress with a subtle black stripe. Outerwear offerings for both male and female flight attendants include a black all-season coat and an optional gray double-breasted wool coat for colder conditions.
Customer service employees receive a tailored ensemble focused on black blazers, trousers, sweaters, vests and skirts. To help differentiate roles and responsibilities, agents will pair these base pieces with colored shirts and distinctive neckwear that vary depending on their particular duties. This approach keeps the overall look unified while offering clear visual cues about each agent’s role.
Uniforms for ramp, cargo and technical operations are crafted with practicality and durability in mind, using breathable, flexible fabrics suited for active, year-round work. The collection includes work shirts, polo shirts and T-shirts designed for comfort and movement. Pants, shorts and coveralls for both men and women are made from a soft, brushed fabric to improve comfort during long shifts. Outerwear for these teams uses a modular three-piece system: a zip-up fleece-lined vest, an insulated jacket and a waterproof outer shell, allowing workers to adapt to changing weather and job conditions. In addition, the lineup includes waterproof wind pants, hooded sweatshirts, baseball caps and knit caps to cover a range of operational needs and climates.
The updated uniforms emphasize a balance between a unified corporate identity and role-specific function. By standardizing key elements across different groups while offering tailored options—such as role-specific neckwear for agents and reinforced, weather-resistant systems for ramp crews—United aims to present a cohesive brand image without sacrificing the practical requirements of diverse job functions.
Employees participated in the design process through extensive feedback, ensuring the garments meet real-world demands. The company focused on materials that combine durability and comfort, details that convey professionalism, and flexible outerwear systems to accommodate varying weather and workplace environments. The result is a contemporary uniform program intended to be both visually striking and operationally sensible.
This rollout marks a notable visual update for United as it moves toward a more consistent brand presentation across customer-facing and operational teams. The coordinated color accents and consistent styling signal a deliberate effort to modernize appearance while maintaining clear, functional distinctions between roles. With pilots set to debut their new uniforms later in the year, the airline’s full uniform refresh will be complete, reinforcing the company’s refreshed identity.
