United has begun regular service with its first Boeing 787-10 Dreamliner, operating the route between Los Angeles (LAX) and Newark (EWR). With this delivery, United becomes the first airline worldwide to fly all three Dreamliner variants. The 787-10 in United’s fleet is the first of its model to feature Polaris business-class seating alongside the carrier’s new Premium Plus cabins.
The Dreamliner series is designed to enhance the passenger experience through improved cabin conditions. Passengers benefit from a lower cabin altitude and higher humidity levels, which can reduce fatigue on longer flights. Advanced air-filtration systems contribute to cleaner cabin air, while aerodynamic improvements and noise-reduction features produce a quieter, more comfortable environment. Additionally, the 787-10 offers a smoother ride compared with many older widebody aircraft.
From an operational standpoint, the 787-10 delivers better fuel efficiency than previous-generation jets, helping airlines reduce fuel burn and emissions on medium- and long-haul routes. United plans to introduce a second 787-10 on the San Francisco (SFO) to Newark (EWR) route next month, with that aircraft scheduled to begin international routes in March.
Passengers flying on United’s 787-10 can expect the carrier’s updated interior design, including the full Polaris experience in business class and enhanced Premium Plus seating for a more comfortable premium-economy option. These cabin upgrades, combined with the aircraft’s environmental and comfort advancements, support United’s broader efforts to modernize its fleet and improve the travel experience across domestic and international networks.
United’s deployment of the 787-10 on transcontinental routes reflects a trend among major carriers to use more efficient, passenger-friendly widebodies on high-demand domestic sectors and to position them for extended international service. As additional 787-10 aircraft enter the fleet, travelers can anticipate expanded opportunities to experience the model’s revised seating and quieter, more comfortable cabin on both coast-to-coast and overseas flights.
