Arrival/Check-In: I arrived in Dallas on a cloudy afternoon and, fortunately, encountered light traffic that allowed me to reach downtown in under 30 minutes. The Joule, a Neo-Gothic building from the 1920s, stands as a landmark in the heart of the business district. Valet attendants met me at the curb, gathered my luggage, and led me through an art-filled lobby. Although I knew the hotel featured art installations, I was still pleasantly surprised by the thoughtfully curated pieces that create a gallery-like atmosphere. I was warmly greeted and efficiently checked in at the front desk in the center of the lobby. Elevators are tucked away down a long corridor, but artworks lining the walls make the walk engaging and easy to navigate.
Guest Quarters: My deluxe one-bedroom suite on the fifth floor was exceptionally spacious. The living room entrance showcased dark wood floors and cream-colored walls. A large geometric rug anchored a full sectional sofa and club chair facing a 47-inch flat-screen television, all beneath a striking chandelier. I spent much of my stay in this comfortable seating area—catching a little sports and tackling work on the sizable desk, which offered ample outlets and thoughtful touches like a complimentary bottle of red wine and gourmet chocolates presented in a crystal jar.
The bedroom featured a king-sized bed with luxury Sferra linens. Nightstands provided extra outlets for charging, though the touchscreen lighting controls required a few minutes to learn. Full-length mirror doors revealed a generous closet stocked with cushioned hangers and a plush robe. A second large flat-screen television faced the bed, and low bookshelves lined the room with Taschen art books and convenient space for personal items.
The bathroom, located across the living room, was worth the short walk. Finished in black and gray stone and marble, it included dual sinks and a spacious vanity with well-placed lighting around large mirrors. The Niven Morgan bath products, specially made for The Joule, added a refined touch. A frosted-glass enclosure houses a rainfall shower with seating—a genuinely spa-like experience and one of the best showers I’ve encountered in a hotel.
Services/Amenities: The hotel offers a wide range of dining and leisure options. For a relaxed evening, the Lobby Bar provides casual cocktails amid oversized art pieces. For a livelier night out or a date night, the Midnight Rambler delivers a stylish, energetic atmosphere.
On-site dining at CBD Provisions presents modern interpretations of Texas favorites. I enjoyed it so much I returned for both breakfast and dinner. Highlights include the Little Gem lettuce with lump crab as a shareable starter and the Berkshire pig head carnitas. For breakfast, the avocado toast paired with a chai latte made for an ideal start to the day.
Wellness facilities are excellent. The spa provides treatments and relaxation, while the rooftop heated pool extends over Main Street for a unique swim experience. The high-tech gym is open 24 hours, and the on-property fitness studio, VITAL, offers classes such as spinning and boxing—perfect for guests who want to maintain their workout routine or try something new while traveling.
Top Takeaways:
- Art and photography are integrated throughout the hotel, creating a gallery-like ambiance.
- Prime shopping is within walking distance, including distinctive boutiques and the flagship Neiman Marcus.
- On-site dining and cocktails are standout experiences—CBD Provisions for meals and Midnight Rambler for evening drinks are highly recommended.
