Travelers Will Pay More for Convenience: Insights from a New Survey

A recent survey conducted by FlightView shows that travelers place a high value on convenience and are often willing to pay extra for it.

Convenience & Choice: What Travelers Want Most (And Are Willing to Pay For) throughout Their Journey surveyed 2,300 travelers to identify the services and options they prioritize while planning and making trips.

Key findings from the survey include:

  • Over 75 percent of travelers frequently have trouble finding direct flights from their local airport to their intended destination, highlighting a gap in nonstop service availability.
  • Sixty-six percent of respondents consider more than one departure airport when booking, indicating that flexibility with origin airports is common when seeking better schedules or pricing.
  • Nearly 60 percent of travelers said they are willing to pay extra for premium airport services, showing a strong market for enhanced travel experiences and conveniences.
  • The most requested premium services were RFID luggage tags for real-time bag tracking, higher-performance WiFi, and in-seat charging stations—amenities that address common pain points during travel.
  • Ninety percent of travelers who use wearable devices want day-of-travel updates and alerts pushed to those devices, demonstrating demand for timely, personalized travel information delivered directly to wearables.

These results suggest that travelers value time-saving and confidence-building services—anything that reduces uncertainty, improves connectivity, or speeds up the journey. Airlines and airports that invest in reliable direct connections, flexible departure options, premium connectivity, and integrated baggage and notification systems may meet strong consumer demand and capture additional revenue streams.

For travelers, the survey underscores the growing importance of digital tools and enhanced airport amenities. From checking alternate airports to opting into premium services and syncing alerts with wearables, modern passengers are looking for control, transparency, and convenience throughout every stage of travel.
