The Goodland: Laid-Back Luxury Beachside Escape in Santa Barbara

Kimpton has opened its newest Santa Barbara property this month: The Goodland, a surf-inspired hotel with 158 guestrooms. The luxury, pet-friendly property debuted on Aug. 26 and blends laid-back Southern California style with thoughtful amenities aimed at comfort and local character.

On arrival, guests receive a welcome beverage such as a Mexican Coca-Cola or a Coronita. The Goodland features a vintage house car, a full-service spa, an outdoor swimming pool and a lobby designed for socializing, complete with a fireplace and a photo booth. Guestrooms are appointed in coastal style, with wall-mounted surfboards, tie-dye upholstered armchairs, sea-glass lamps and a selection of vintage books that contribute to a relaxed, lived-in atmosphere.

Each room also includes a vintage Crosley record player. Guests can choose records at check-in from a selection kept behind the front desk or call ahead to request specific albums. The hotel’s Record Concierge, Lea Sindija, meets with guests who want a deeper experience—sharing the history of vinyl, explaining how records are made and helping visitors select music that suits their stay. Lea’s curated vinyl collection reinforces the hotel’s easygoing, upscale SoCal vibe and includes artists ranging from Ray Charles and Jimi Hendrix to Red Hot Chili Peppers, Green Day and Sublime.

The Goodland aims to offer an authentic Santa Barbara stay by pairing nostalgic touches with modern amenities. Pet-friendly policies, thoughtful arrival perks and on-site experiences like the Record Concierge and spa services are intended to make stays comfortable and memorable for couples, solo travelers and families alike.
