KLM Unveils New Business Class Seats with More Space and Privacy

Dutch carrier KLM has begun installing its new fully-flat business-class seats on the first of its Airbus A330 aircraft. The premium cabin product, first introduced in 2013, is already in service on KLM’s Boeing 747, 777-200 and 777-300 fleets, and will be factory-installed on incoming 787 Dreamliners.

The retrofit program will update KLM’s A330-300 aircraft with the new business-class seats by July 2018, with a second phase completing installations on eight A330-200s by October. The work is part of a broader initiative to standardize and enhance the carrier’s long-haul cabin experience across multiple aircraft types.

Each seat converts into a fully flat bed to provide a comfortable rest on overnight flights. Passengers will also have access to in-seat power and an 18-inch high-definition entertainment screen, bringing the A330 experience in line with KLM’s long-haul cabins on other widebodies. These hardware upgrades are designed to improve both comfort and convenience for business-class travelers.

In addition to the seat hardware, KLM has expanded its onboard service offerings for premium travelers. The airline introduced an “Anytime for You” dining option on selected routes, allowing passengers to choose from a selection of eight hot and cold dishes. The menu covers a range of tastes—from savory mains to lighter healthy options and sweet treats—so passengers can select a meal whenever they prefer during the flight.

Combining the fully-flat seating, larger personal screens and flexible dining choices, KLM aims to deliver a consistent, refreshed business-class product across its long-haul fleet. The retrofit schedule targets a smooth transition so regular customers will begin seeing the updated cabins on A330 routes as the program progresses through the stated milestones.

Ultimately, these improvements reflect KLM’s focus on enhancing the premium passenger experience through a mix of improved cabin hardware and more flexible onboard services. The carrier’s approach emphasizes comfort, connectivity and choice to meet evolving expectations for long-haul travel.
