The Dylan Amsterdam: Stylish New Look and Renovation Reveal

Evoking the quirky design and refined elegance that define some of Amsterdam’s finest addresses, the newly refreshed The Dylan, Amsterdam invites urban travelers to experience its thoughtfully reimagined spaces. This five-star boutique hotel, with 41 rooms, a prime canal-side location on the Keizersgracht and a two Michelin-starred restaurant, offers numerous reasons to stay. The Green Globe–certified property occupies a historic stone theater—the city’s first—designed in 1638 by Jacob van Campen. Amsterdam-based Studio Linse and Format Furniture were commissioned to honor the building’s legacy while introducing a contemporary, luxurious aesthetic.

“We wanted the rooms to feel quietly confident,” said Paul Linse, founder and design director of Studio Linse. “No marble or gold—just materials that speak for themselves.” The result is an understated, tactile palette that prioritizes quality of materials and subtle detailing over overt showiness.

The hotel includes an annex, added in 2014 and fully renovated in 2024. Known as the Serendipity building and originally designed by Dutch interior architect Remy Meijers, the annex now features restored ornamental moldings, luxurious carpets and a warm, calming color scheme developed by Studio Linse. Suites showcase made-to-measure oak cabinetry topped with quartzite, freestanding Vallone soaking tubs and a curated mix of vintage influences and bespoke furnishings tailored to each room.

“Every piece was made to measure,” added Jikke Snelleman, co-founder of Format Furniture. “We collaborated closely with Studio Linse to ensure the materials and finishes echoed The Dylan’s quiet sophistication. The emphasis isn’t on opulence but on enduring style and attention to craft.”

After a day spent discovering Amsterdam’s winding streets and hidden corners, guests can dine at Restaurant Vinkeles, which serves contemporary French cuisine within the intimate setting of an 18th-century bakery. For a more exclusive experience, até offers a six-seat chef’s table presenting dishes that blend influences from Mexican, French and Japanese culinary traditions.

The Dylan’s thoughtful renovation balances historical preservation with contemporary comfort: restored architectural details sit alongside custom-made furnishings and natural materials chosen for their texture and longevity. Whether visiting for the hotel’s canal-side charm, its Michelin-starred dining or the tailored comforts of its suites, guests will find a discreetly sophisticated retreat in the heart of Amsterdam.
