Humanitarian Terry Waite was the keynote speaker at the 2013 GT Tested Reader Survey Awards. A former envoy and hostage negotiator who later became a prisoner himself, Waite spent nearly five years in captivity in Lebanon—largely in solitary confinement—during the late 1980s and early 1990s. Drawing on that experience, he delivered a moving talk about the lessons he learned while imprisoned and the transformative power of forgiveness.
