Tate Modern, London’s leading gallery for 20th- and 21st-century art, has recently completed an 11-level, 212-foot-tall tower, increasing its exhibition and performance space by 60 percent. To celebrate this expansion, Mondrian London is offering an exclusive package tied to the museum’s major 2016 retrospective of American artist Georgia O’Keeffe. The hotel’s special offer runs through Oct. 30 and includes an overnight stay with a full breakfast buffet for two, two tickets to the Georgia O’Keeffe exhibition, and two signature “Jimson Blossom” cocktails.
The cocktail was created by mixologist Ryan Chetiyawardana for the Mondrian’s Dandelyan bar. Made with Porter’s Gin, Yellow Chartreuse, coconut-lime, chamomile, and a passiflora tincture, the drink is intended to echo the ethereal summer tones and floral themes found in O’Keeffe’s paintings.
Mondrian London sits on the South Bank, just a five-minute walk from Tate Modern, making it an ideal base for visitors planning to explore the museum’s new galleries and the O’Keeffe retrospective. The hotel will also feature a life-size Dandelyan flower installation on the bar windows, highlighting details of the Georgia O’Keeffe exhibition for passersby along the Thames.
The Georgia O’Keeffe retrospective assembles many of the artist’s most significant works, including Jimson Weed/White Flower No. 1 (1932), which holds the record as the most expensive painting by a female artist sold at auction. O’Keeffe, who emerged in 1916, is widely regarded as a pioneering figure in American modernism and one of the most influential artists of the 20th century. Because few of her works are held in UK public collections, this Tate Modern exhibition offers a rare opportunity to see O’Keeffe’s paintings outside the United States.
