SWISS will transform flight LX 16 from Zurich (ZRH) to New York (JFK) on 21 November into a pop-up restaurant at 35,000 feet.
Renowned Swiss chef Andreas Caminada, holder of three Michelin stars, will be on board to design and serve a special menu for passengers in first, business and economy classes. Caminada’s participation brings his signature attention to seasonal ingredients and refined presentation to an airborne dining experience.
“In addition to our award-winning SWISS Taste of Switzerland in-flight food service concept, we want to offer our guests a further and unique culinary highlight on this particular flight,” said Frank Maier, Head of Product and Services at SWISS. “We are delighted that, in collaboration with Andreas Caminada, we will be the first airline in the world to take the innovative pop-up-restaurant concept and offer it above the clouds.”
The event aims to combine haute cuisine with the unique atmosphere of long-haul travel. SWISS intends for the pop-up to complement its regular onboard dining by presenting a curated, multi-course tasting created specifically for the flight. Passengers can expect dishes adapted to the constraints and opportunities of in-flight service while reflecting Caminada’s culinary style.
While in-flight conditions require adjustments to recipes and plating, airlines and chefs working together have increasingly explored ways to preserve flavor, texture and visual appeal at altitude. This collaboration highlights SWISS’s focus on elevating the passenger experience through partnerships with celebrated culinary figures.
The pop-up restaurant format, familiar on the ground for creating temporary, high-profile dining events, is being adapted here to a confined cabin environment. SWISS and Caminada will manage logistical and safety considerations to ensure that the meal service meets both culinary and aviation standards while remaining practical for crew and passengers.
For travelers seeking a distinctive journey, the flight offers more than transport: it presents an opportunity to sample a specially crafted menu by a top chef in an exceptional setting. SWISS’s announcement underscores the airline’s commitment to innovation in onboard service and to providing memorable touches for its guests.
Details such as the specific menu, seating allocation for the pop-up service, and any additional costs were not disclosed in the announcement. Interested passengers should consult SWISS for updates and booking information related to this particular flight.
