Stay in the Churchill Suites at The Old Parsonage Hotel, Oxford this Spring

Old Parsonage Hotel in Oxford, United Kingdom, has unveiled two new luxury suites — The Churchill Suites — to mark the 70th anniversary of sculptor Oscar Nemon’s first sittings with Winston Churchill in 1951. The 17th-century hotel introduced the suites to coincide with the Blenheim Palace Churchill Exhibition and just in time for spring, when the property is adorned by wisteria in full bloom.

The two suites, named Winston and Randolph, tell the story that links Sir Winston Churchill, his son Randolph, sculptor Oscar Nemon and Blenheim Palace, Churchill’s ancestral home. Each suite is designed to immerse guests in that history through carefully selected photographs and memorabilia that highlight private moments and the creative relationship between Churchill and Nemon.

Oscar Nemon, who left Yugoslavia and settled in Oxford to escape the rising danger of Nazi Germany, established a reputation as an acclaimed sculptor. The hotel’s displays include rare images and artifacts that reflect Nemon’s long association with the Churchill family and his contribution to their public image.

As part of the new offering, Old Parsonage Hotel has acquired a life-sized bronze bust of Winston Churchill by Nemon, the first bust of its kind to be displayed in Oxford. Both suites will include a copy of Josh Ireland’s book, Churchill & Son, which explores the complex relationships between Winston, his father Lord Randolph and his favored son, Randolph. The rooms will also showcase two sizes of replica bronze resin busts of Sir Winston Churchill, available for guests who wish to purchase them.
