The famed Newt in Somerset estate invites guests to experience its newest accommodation on the 1,000-acre property: the Gate Lodge. This two-bedroom cottage echoes the refined charm of the 17th-century manor house. Originally the gatehouse to Hadspen House, the restored lodge now offers a peaceful country sanctuary for visitors.

The cottage features two en-suite bedrooms, a comfortable living room, an open-plan kitchen and high ceilings that enhance its sense of space. Interiors play with texture and tone: rich red velvets contrast with soft sage-green walls, miniature portraits sit beside oversized armoires, and the kitchen is fitted with copper pans and neutral cabinetry for an airy yet intimate atmosphere.
Gate Lodge includes private parking and comes with its own dedicated golf buggy and bicycles, making it easy to explore the estate. Guests can use the buggy and bikes to reach both Hadspen House and the Farmyard, as well as enjoy woodlands, formal gardens, apple orchards and the estate’s cyder press. Highlights on the grounds include Beezantium, The Story of Gardening and the recently opened Roman Villa.

On-site amenities extend beyond the cottage. The estate spa offers garden-inspired treatments using herbs and fragrances drawn from an English country garden. There are two swimming pool barns and three dining venues — The Botanical Rooms, Farmyard Kitchen and the Garden Café — each presenting seasonal, garden-to-table menus that showcase local produce.
Gate Lodge rates start at approximately $2,425 for a two-night stay on a B&B basis, with a minimum two-night booking required. Rates include access to the wider estate and a 12-month Newt Membership, providing guests with ongoing benefits and the opportunity to return and explore more of the estate throughout the year.
