Located in the heart of Milan’s vibrant Porta Nuova district, the restored Excelsior Hotel Gallia, a Luxury Collection property, has reopened after an extensive renovation of the historic palace and the addition of a contemporary new wing. Previously known as Palace Gallia, the hotel represents the latest restoration in The Luxury Collection’s multi-million dollar initiative to rejuvenate its most iconic European addresses.
“With The Luxury Collection set to reach 100 hotels by the end of the year, this is an exciting time to unveil Excelsior Hotel Gallia,” said Hoyt Harper, global brand leader for The Luxury Collection Hotels & Resorts. The relaunch coincides with Milan’s international design events and reflects the city’s blend of art, fashion and culture. Local architects and artisans worked to preserve the building’s historic character while adapting the property to the expectations of today’s luxury travelers and the local community.
The restored palace now provides 235 elegantly appointed guestrooms and suites, highlighted by the Katara Suite — one of Italy’s most spacious presidential suites — which features two terraces, four bedrooms and a private floor on the seventh level. The hotel also debuts the first Shiseido Space in Italy, offers several dining options and includes generous meeting and event facilities suitable for both business and social gatherings.
Starwood currently manages 24 hotels across Italy under five lifestyle brands: St. Regis, The Luxury Collection, Sheraton, Westin and Four Points by Sheraton. Within The Luxury Collection’s Italian portfolio are celebrated properties such as Venice’s Gritti Palace and Hotel Danieli, along with three distinguished resorts in Sardinia’s Costa Smeralda — Cala di Volpe, Romazzino and Pitrizza.
