Arrival/Check-In: I arrived in Seattle on a cloudy Sunday morning. The rain held off, and the trip from Seattle-Tacoma International Airport to the Grand Hyatt Seattle was remarkably quick. The hotel sits directly across from the Washington State Convention Center, yet it doesn’t feel like a typical convention property. Warm wood, marble accents, and engaging sculptures give the lobby a welcoming, upscale vibe. Comfortable seating clusters provide pleasant spots for work or casual meetings, and the check-in process was efficient—completed within minutes.
Guest Quarters: My room, located on an upper floor, featured floor-to-ceiling windows with sweeping views of Elliott Bay and downtown Seattle. The chaise longue by the window became my favorite workspace; I ended up working there more than at the traditional desk, which still offered ample outlets and surface area. The king bed was comfortable and conducive to a restful night. The bathroom was spacious and finished in marble, with excellent lighting above a single-sink vanity and premium June Jacobs toiletries. Complimentary bottled water was provided, and the glass-enclosed, stand-alone shower was excellent. My room did not include a sunken tub, which some other rooms offer, but the overall bathroom amenities were high quality.
Services and Amenities: The Grand Hyatt Seattle does not operate its own full-service restaurants on site, but it hosts leased dining options that serve guests well. On the property you’ll find a Ruth’s Chris Steak House that also offers breakfast, a sushi outlet, and a popular Starbucks. The nearby sister property Olive 8, just half a block away, expands dining and wellness choices. I dined at Olive 8’s Urbane restaurant and enjoyed a locally farmed roast chicken paired with a glass of Washington-state Sauvignon Blanc from Airfield Estates.
Guests of the Grand Hyatt have access to Olive 8’s Elaia spa and its modern fitness center. I treated myself to a 90-minute sports and foot massage delivered by an attentive therapist. The spa, located on the hotel’s second level, includes a generous relaxation room with floor-to-ceiling windows that bring in natural light and oversized chaise longues for pre- or post-treatment rest. This peaceful environment made for a perfect final stop before my return flight.
Overall, the combined experience of Grand Hyatt Seattle and its neighbor Olive 8 was highly positive. The properties complement each other well, offering quality dining, wellness, and comfortable accommodations. One minor drawback is that reaching some basic amenities can require a short walk between properties, but the variety and level of service compensate for that. I look forward to staying at Olive 8 on my next visit to Seattle.
