SoHo Vibes: Your Guide to Art, Nightlife & Boutique Finds

Rebranded and refreshed, the former 60 Thompson hotel has reopened under a new name: Sixty SoHo. The boutique luxury property houses 97 guest rooms and lofts, including 10 suites with French balconies. Designer Tara Bernerd shaped the interiors with a sophisticated, layered approach—combining contrasting textures, warm ambient lighting, a muted color palette and velvet accents to create a calm yet stylish atmosphere.

The lobby features an eclectic mix of furnishings that span mid-20th century classics to contemporary pieces, complemented by curated artworks from British artist Harland Miller. Guest rooms showcase planked timber floors and dark slatted wood blinds that form a backdrop for caramel leather seating, mohair upholstery details, and custom bar cabinets and desks finished in petrol-blue lacquer.

Guest amenities are upscale and thoughtfully chosen: terrycloth robes, REN personal care products, and Sferra towels and linens. To reinforce the hotel’s intimate, gallery-like ambiance, original artworks by Miller are featured in rooms and suites. On the rooftop, Above SIXTY’s terrace provides striking views across the city and an inviting place to relax.

Looking ahead, the hotel planned a culinary offering for 2015 with Sessanta, a coastal Italian restaurant developed in collaboration with New York restaurateur John McDonald, known for projects such as Lure Fishbar and Bowery Meat Company. The overall result is a refined SoHo address that blends design-conscious interiors, thoughtful amenities, and inviting social spaces.
