SkyTeam Marks 15 Years: Airline Alliance Milestones and Growth

SkyTeam is celebrating its 15th anniversary. Established in 2000 by AeroMéxico, Air France, Delta Air Lines and Korean Air, the alliance has grown into a network of 20 global carriers connecting travelers to more than 1,000 destinations around the world.

“Over the past 15 years we have expanded and strengthened cooperation among our members, covering more than 90 percent of the most important global traffic flows,” said Mauro Oretti, Vice President of Marketing and Commercial Synergies at SkyTeam.

“Last year, over 26 million passengers used two or more SkyTeam carriers to complete their journeys. Our priority remains the customer: delivering a smooth airport experience, efficient transfers and integrated frequent flyer benefits. We continue to focus on services that meet the needs of corporate and leisure travelers alike.”

SkyTeam’s customer-focused initiatives include:

  • SkyPriority, an alliance-wide standard that provides priority airport services for Elite Plus members and first- and business-class passengers;
  • Dedicated fast-track security and immigration lanes for top-tier customers;
  • SkyTransfer, designed to ensure seamless, efficient transfers for passengers and their baggage between member airlines;
  • Exclusive SkyTeam lounges in Sydney (SYD), London (LHR) and Istanbul (IST), with a Hong Kong (HKG) lounge planned to open later this year and additional lounges scheduled for Dubai (DXB) and Beijing (PEK);
  • Yoga on the Go, a SkyTeam program offering simple in-flight and airport exercises to help customers stay comfortable and healthy while traveling;
  • Multi-carrier award booking tools available online and through member carriers’ mobile apps to simplify itinerary planning and rewards redemption.

As SkyTeam marks 15 years, the alliance emphasizes continuous improvement in passenger experience, operational connectivity and loyalty benefits—aiming to make international travel more consistent and convenient for millions of customers worldwide.
