After a two-year development program and an investment of roughly $80 million, Singapore Airlines is introducing a new premium economy class. The cabin will enter service in August and is designed to bridge the gap between economy and business travel with enhanced comfort and thoughtful amenities.
Seat dimensions vary by aircraft: seats measure either 18.5 or 19.5 inches wide, with a seat pitch of 38 inches and up to eight inches of recline. Each seat includes a calf-rest and foot-bar, making longer flights noticeably more comfortable. In-seat power and two USB ports keep devices charged, while a personal reading light and expanded stowage offer practical convenience for individual passengers.
Entertainment and noise control are improved with a 13.3-inch HD monitor and noise-canceling headphones provided at every seat. A cocktail table adds space for meals and work, and the overall cabin layout emphasizes ergonomic support and generous personal space.
“Many of our customers have been asking for a premium economy offering and we are confident that what we are delivering will exceed their expectations,” said Mak Swee Wah, executive vice president commercial at Singapore Airlines. The carrier’s team conducted extensive research and focus group studies with customers and design partners during the two-year process to refine the product.
Rollout will be gradual: premium economy will be introduced on 19 Airbus A380s, 19 Boeing 777-300ERs, and the first 20 Airbus A350s. This phased deployment ensures the new cabin is available across a broad range of long-haul aircraft, giving more travelers access to a higher level of comfort without the premium price of business class.
The new premium economy targets passengers seeking a quieter, more spacious and better-equipped travel experience for long-haul flights. With upgraded seating, improved entertainment systems, power connectivity and additional storage, the product aims to enhance overall in-flight well-being while maintaining practical value for frequent flyers and leisure travelers alike.
