Singapore Airlines Introduces New Aircraft Designed to Reduce Jet Lag

Singapore Airlines has introduced its first Airbus A350, a long-range aircraft designed to improve passenger comfort on ultra-long-haul flights of up to around 19 hours.

The A350 features an extra-wide fuselage: this 253-passenger aircraft is approximately six inches wider than a Boeing 787, offering improved shoulder room and a more comfortable cabin layout across all classes.

Singapore Airlines, consistently recognized for premium onboard products, equips its cabins with spacious business-class seating and thoughtfully designed economy accommodations. Economy passengers benefit from high-definition video screens, footrests, tray tables with integrated vanity mirrors, dual USB ports, and a universal power outlet. These conveniences, combined with ergonomic seating, help travelers rest more effectively on long flights and arrive less fatigued.

Beyond interior fittings, the A350 incorporates several systems aimed at reducing jet lag and improving wellbeing. The cabin is pressurized to a lower equivalent altitude than many older jets, which helps passengers breathe more easily and feel less tired. An onboard humidification system combats the dry environment typical of high-altitude flight, reducing dehydration and related discomfort. Additionally, an advanced LED lighting system capable of displaying 16.7 million colors can recreate natural light cycles to help passengers adjust their circadian rhythms during long journeys.

These design features have contributed to the A350 being adopted by multiple international carriers. Airlines such as Qatar Airways, Vietnam Airlines, Finnair and TAM have added A350s to their fleets, and many other operators continue to place orders for the type.
