Scandinavian Airlines will introduce a new direct route between Stockholm (ARN) and Madrid (MAD) starting July 1. The service complements the airline’s existing Copenhagen (CPH)–Madrid connection and will operate twice weekly using Boeing 737 aircraft.
This launch is part of a broader network expansion by SAS. In 2013 the carrier opened 47 new routes, expanding its Scandinavian and European offering. From Stockholm, several new destinations were added, including Vilnius, Lithuania (VNO); Innsbruck, Austria (INN); Pula, Croatia (PUY); Palermo, Italy (PMO); Cagliari, Italy (CAG); Thessaloniki, Greece (SKG); Tel Aviv, Israel (TLV); Pristina, Kosovo (PRN); and Alanya, Turkey (GZP).
Gothenburg (GSE) also saw growth with new services to Nice, France (NCE) and Pristina, Kosovo (PRN). The expansion reflects SAS’s focus on strengthening regional connectivity and offering more direct travel options across Europe and beyond.
Passengers flying the new Stockholm–Madrid link can expect the familiar onboard standards associated with SAS on short- to medium-haul flights. Timetables, fares and additional details will be available through SAS channels and booking platforms when the flights are released for sale.
This route addition gives travelers in Sweden another convenient option for reaching Spain’s capital, enhancing leisure and business travel links between the two cities while building on SAS’s established Madrid services from Copenhagen.
