Celebrating its 70th anniversary, SAS is upgrading its entire short- and medium-haul fleet with improved cabin features and significantly enhanced connectivity options.
SAS now offers some of the fastest in-flight WiFi available in Europe, delivering onboard speeds starting at 12 Mbps and higher. This bandwidth supports high-quality, gate-to-gate streaming, enabling passengers to work, video-conference, or watch movies and TV series throughout the flight. Flight crews are also benefiting from the upgrade: cabin staff now use WiFi-enabled iPad Minis to assist passengers more effectively during the entire journey. The new connectivity will be rolled out on flights beginning in the latter half of next year. On short-haul services, the WiFi is complimentary for EuroBonus members and SAS Plus ticket holders.
“Many of our customers are frequent flyers and we play an important part in the lives of many people. The upgrade we implemented on our long-haul aircraft gained a very positive reception and we are now upgrading our short- and medium-haul fleet, which will also include high-speed WiFi with speeds that enable time onboard to be utilized for work or to relax and enjoy a streamed movie or TV series. As both passengers and crew onboard are now connected, we can take our personal service to greater heights while continuing to develop our digital, smart solutions that make life easier,” said Rickard Gustafson, president and CEO of SAS.
The cabin enhancements focus on passenger comfort and convenience. New cabins add more legroom, redesigned seats, additional USB power outlets, and an updated lighting system that improves the onboard atmosphere. The new interior first appears on Airbus A320neo aircraft and follows a design similar to SAS’s current long-haul cabins. By mid-2019, SAS anticipates these short- and medium-haul cabin upgrades will be installed on 100 aircraft, modernizing the travel experience across its network.
