Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) will begin nonstop service between Stavanger Airport in Norway and George Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston this summer to meet growing demand from the oil and gas sector. This new route provides a direct link between Scandinavia and Houston and will operate daily except Saturdays using Boeing 737-700 aircraft.
The aircraft will be configured with 44 business-class seats and offer a full-service onboard experience that includes in-flight entertainment and meal service. The schedule has been designed to provide convenient connections across Scandinavia in both directions, allowing travelers from multiple Nordic cities to link to the Houston flight with minimal wait times.
Houston serves as a major gateway for onward travel across the Americas, offering connections to destinations in the southern and western United States, as well as to Mexico. As a member of Star Alliance, SAS can leverage partner networks at Houston to provide passengers with seamless connections to cities such as Los Angeles, Dallas and Phoenix.
Rickard Gustafson, CEO and president of SAS, noted that the timing and routing of the service were chosen to support both business travelers and the energy industry, which frequently requires efficient point-to-point travel between Norway’s Stavanger region and the US Gulf Coast. The nonstop option should reduce travel time and eliminate the need for intermediate stops, making it an attractive choice for industry professionals and other passengers traveling between these regions.
In addition to serving commercial and energy-sector passengers, the route is expected to support broader business and cultural ties between Scandinavia and Texas. Direct flights typically encourage increased trade, collaboration and tourism by simplifying travel logistics and enhancing accessibility. For regional airports in Scandinavia, the new Houston link offers another international gateway and additional scheduling flexibility.
Tickets and schedule details will be available through SAS sales channels and official booking platforms. Passengers can expect standard international travel services, including checked baggage allowances, customer service support and frequent flyer benefits for eligible members of the airline’s loyalty program. Travelers should review current travel requirements and entry rules for both Norway and the United States before booking and departure, as policies can change.
The introduction of this route reflects a broader trend among airlines to open targeted nonstops that connect industry hubs directly, improving efficiency for corporate travel and serving niche demand segments. By operating most days of the week with a modern narrow-body aircraft, SAS aims to balance capacity and frequency, offering a dependable schedule without oversupplying the market.
Overall, the new Stavanger–Houston service will provide a practical, nonstop option for passengers traveling between Scandinavia and the southern United States, particularly those involved in the oil and gas industry, while also supporting general business, leisure and cultural exchanges between the regions.
