Sail Carlingford Lough This Summer: Scenic Cruises & Day Trips

Carlingford Lough Cruises, located midway between Dublin and Belfast in Ireland, launches a summer series of evening gin-tasting cruises and ceilí events on the lough. The new Summer Gin Tasting Cruise runs every weekend through Sept. 10 and, in partnership with Woodlab Distillery of Dungannon, showcases the award-winning Symphonia Gin during a scenic tour around the lough.

Alongside the gin tastings, Carlingford Lough Cruises will reintroduce popular offerings including the Sunset Cruise, Meet the Maker Cruise and the Lough & Lighthouse Cruise. The Lough & Lighthouse Cruise takes guests close to Haulbowline Lighthouse before exploring the outer lough and sharing local myths and legends. The Sunset Cruise sails past the medieval town of Carlingford, King John’s Castle, the Cooley Mountains, Greencastle Royal Castle and Rostrevor Bay.

Onboard experiences are designed to highlight the region’s scenery and culture. Passengers enjoy live music and dancing, with a rotating lineup of bands covering traditional tunes to jazz. Guided audio tours provide historical context, and a café on board offers refreshments during the sail. The cruises provide excellent views of the Mourne Mountains and the Cooley Peninsula, making them appealing for both visitors and locals.

“We are collaborating with local businesses to highlight local produce and brands that we believe are world class,” said Irene Hamilton, commercial director of the Frazer Ferry Group. “We know that our guests love to dance, so we have an exciting lineup of live bands to play on the ferry from traditional to jazz.”

Passengers can board at the cruise terminals in Greencastle, County Down, or Greenore, County Louth. The mix of tasting events, cultural entertainment and scenic cruising makes these offerings a compelling way to experience Carlingford Lough this summer.
