The latest addition to luxury safari-style accommodations in northern Botswana is Sable Alley by Natural Selection, located within the 440,000-acre Khwai Private Reserve. Bordering Moremi Game Reserve and Chobe National Park, the reserve also forms part of the greater Okavango Delta ecosystem and overlooks a calm lagoon on the Khwai River. The camp’s elevated luxury tents offer uninterrupted views as wildlife arrives to drink, including a resident pod of hippopotamus.

Nighttime visitors to the lagoon include elephants and buffalo, while the surrounding woodlands support lions, leopards, African wild dogs, cheetahs and sable antelope. Experienced guides lead a variety of immersive activities designed to showcase the area’s wildlife and waterways. Guests can glide through reed-lined channels on traditional mokoro safaris—quiet dugout-canoe trips that highlight birdlife and the Delta’s subtle sounds—or choose guided nature walks for close-to-ground perspectives. For broader game-viewing, four-by-four safari drives and specially arranged hides permit up-close observation of big game from a safe distance. Sundowner cruises provide relaxed late-afternoon experiences on the water.
The camp features twelve spacious guest tents, each approximately 675 square feet and raised on wooden decks to maximize views and airflow. Large insect-proof mesh windows frame the lagoon, while interiors are furnished with refined, natural color palettes and carefully selected artwork and photography. Accommodations include king-sized or twin beds, bathrooms with double vanities, and the option of indoor or outdoor showers for a more authentic wilderness experience.
Sable Alley combines comfort with environmentally conscious design. Solar power contributes to the camp’s energy needs, while greywater recycling reduces waste and helps protect the fragile Delta environment. The camp employs staff from nearby communities, supporting local livelihoods, and a portion of revenue is directed back into conservation initiatives that protect wildlife habitat. These measures reflect a commitment to low-impact tourism and long-term ecosystem stewardship.
The camp’s position on the Khwai River makes it an excellent base for wildlife photography and birdwatching, with generous opportunities to observe animals at water’s edge. Whether guests prefer the tranquil rhythm of a mokoro glide, the thrill of a guided game drive, or the intimacy of a night at a viewing hide, Sable Alley offers a blend of luxury, accessibility and responsible tourism in one of Botswana’s most iconic wilderness areas.
