Due to growing passenger demand, Qatar Airways will upgrade its Doha (DOH) to Vienna (VIE) service by introducing an Airbus A330 aircraft. Starting Sept. 1, the change from an A320 to an A330 will significantly boost weekly capacity on the route: business-class seating will increase to 336 seats and economy-class seating to 3,304 seats, representing additions of 168 and 1,624 seats respectively.
Günter Saurwein, Qatar Airways’ country manager for Germany and Austria, noted that the move follows the airline’s recent celebration of the 10th anniversary of service to Vienna. He said the anniversary highlights Qatar Airways’ long-term commitment to the city and its customers, and that introducing the A330 will help the carrier meet the route’s expanding travel needs.
The aircraft upgrade will provide passengers with more seat availability and greater scheduling flexibility. For business travelers and tourists alike, the larger A330 offers enhanced comfort and the opportunity to book on more flights, reducing the likelihood of sold-out services during peak periods. Increasing capacity can also support Vienna’s growing ties with Doha in areas such as tourism, business travel and cultural exchange.
Operationally, the switch to the A330 allows Qatar Airways to deploy a widebody aircraft on a short- to medium-haul sector, bringing its advantages—additional luggage space, more cabin amenities and improved onboard service—to a popular European route. For travelers planning trips this autumn and beyond, the upgrade should translate into easier access and improved options when booking between Doha and Vienna.
Qatar Airways’ decision aligns with broader trends in aviation where carriers respond to demand patterns by resizing equipment and schedules. By increasing weekly seat counts substantially in both cabins, the airline aims to better match capacity with passenger demand while maintaining service quality.
