Qantas and LATAM Expand Codeshare Partnership for More Routes

Qantas has expanded travel choices across South America through a strengthened partnership with oneworld partner LAN Airlines. As part of the enhanced arrangement, LAN will operate flights from Santiago, Chile to six destinations: Rio de Janeiro (GIG) and São Paulo (GRU) in Brazil; Lima (LIM) in Peru; and La Serena (LSC), Antofagasta (ANF) and Punta Arenas (PUQ) in Chile. These services give passengers more direct connections within South America and better links to international itineraries.

In turn, LAN will place codeshares on Qantas’ services across its Australian domestic network and within the Tasman region, expanding onward connectivity for travelers between South America, Australia and New Zealand. The reciprocal codeshare arrangement aims to simplify bookings, increase schedule options and create smoother connections for passengers traveling on either carrier’s services.

“We are pleased to strengthen our partnership with Qantas and to add eight new Australian cities to our network of destinations, which are located in key points of the island continent and allow access to the most attractive tourist destinations in Australia,” said Damian Scokin, CEO of LAN Airlines. This growth reflects both airlines’ focus on improving route networks and offering customers more efficient, coordinated travel options across both regions.

The expanded cooperation benefits a variety of travelers: leisure passengers gain more direct and convenient routings to popular destinations in Brazil, Peru and Chile, while business travelers receive better schedule flexibility and strengthened frequent flyer reciprocity. By coordinating schedules and sharing codes, Qantas and LAN aim to reduce transfer times and improve baggage and ticketing continuity for through journeys.

Operationally, the codeshare agreement means flights operated by LAN from Santiago will appear on Qantas’ schedules and booking channels, and selected Qantas-operated services across Australia and the Tasman will be bookable under LAN flight numbers. Passengers should check their itineraries and fare conditions at booking to confirm which carrier operates each sector, as operating carrier policies determine check-in, baggage allowances and boarding procedures.

Both airlines emphasize the customer-service advantages delivered by the partnership: expanded route choices, combined network strengths, and closer commercial cooperation. For travelers planning trips between South America and Australasia, the partnership offers more seamless routing options and simplified connections through enhanced codesharing and network integration.
