Tour operator Pure Adventures, known for self-guided cycling vacations, has expanded its offerings with a new program called Passport to the American West. These one- or two-week self-drive and hiking itineraries celebrate the 2016 centennial of the U.S. National Park Service and are designed for travelers who prefer independent exploration with curated support.
Each package includes a National Park pass, award-winning audio guides for the parks on the route, carefully selected higher-end accommodations, a detailed roadbook and suggested hikes. The components are flexible and can be tailored to fit individual budgets and interests, allowing travelers to prioritize accommodations, activity level and sightseeing preferences.
Participants also receive the latest GPS-driven road-trip app from Just Ahead. This hands-free smartphone guide delivers narrated stories, maps and points of interest as you drive, highlights must-see features and offers turn-by-turn directions. Car rentals are not included but can be arranged during booking, and lodging upgrades are available for those who want additional comfort.
Sample itineraries include Phoenix to Las Vegas, a seven-night, one-week route that begins in the Valley of the Sun and travels through Grand Canyon, Zion and Bryce National Parks before finishing in Las Vegas. Another option, Las Vegas to San Francisco, is a six-night, seven-day trip that moves from Las Vegas through Death Valley, Yosemite and Kings Canyon/Sequoia National Parks and concludes in San Francisco.
These self-drive, self-guided vacations combine the convenience of pre-planned logistics with the freedom to explore at your own pace, making them suitable for travelers who want an independent experience supported by expert resources and local storytelling.
